A Productive Morning at Dexter’s World: Peacocks, Goats, and Catfish Updates!

Catching Peacocks and Adjusting to Farm Challenges

Early this morning, I decided to catch our peacocks, Victor and Veronica. These two beauties were causing quite a ruckus, destroying the roof of our African Lovebirds’ cage. For now, we’ve temporarily placed them in a big breeding cage. I know these majestic birds need plenty of space to fly, but as we’re still developing this area, this arrangement is only temporary.

This cage was originally used for our African Lovebirds back on the Old Farm. However, since the property was acquired by the city government, we moved everything to our new location. We have made significant progress here by expanding the dry field using a payloader to push filling materials into the swampy areas. Now, we’re enjoying a lot more dry land space for our ducks and other animals!

Updates on Our Goat Farm: New Feeding Strategies

Moving on to our goats, we have been experimenting with new supplements and feeds. This time, we are introducing special concentrates that are soya and corn-based, along with different types of grasses mixed in. I noticed that just feeding them grass wasn’t enough to help them attain their best condition. So, we decided to inject them with vitamins and provide these new concentrates, which are proving to be quite delicious for our goats!

This is my first time using these kinds of concentrates, and if they continue to show great results, I might just reveal the manufacturer behind these fantastic feeds. Feeding our goats with the right nutrients is crucial to maintaining their health, and this new strategy seems promising!

Exciting Updates on Our Catfish and Azolla Farming

Now, let’s head over to our fish tanks and see the latest updates on our catfish farming. We’ve been busy lately, so I haven’t had the chance to share much about our catfish, but here’s some good news: they’re growing big and fat! We’re also making great progress with our azolla farming.

I’ve shared the secrets to successful azolla and duckweed farming before, but here’s the final word: never try to grow azolla without fish. I’ve tried several methods, including using kangkong (water spinach) and organic fertilizers like rabbit poop, which were effective, but nothing beats using water from the fish tank. The ammonia in the water helps the azolla grow faster, bigger, and multiply overnight!

Breeding Success: Baby Tilapias and Catfish Updates

Here at Dexter’s World, we have fish everywhere! Our three tanks are filled with thousands of baby tilapias, and our circular tanks are packed with baby catfish. We’re breeding these fish naturally, providing them with good tanks that have proper filtration and oxygen. We’re still in the process of transferring all our fish due to ongoing construction, but we hope to finish the perimeter fence for our fish pond by August.

By September, we plan to move them into the larger pond, and the catfish are already looking big and healthy. They are only about two months old, but they have grown well despite being raised in a small tank. I believe if we transfer them to the mud pond, their growth will be twice as fast!

Success on the farm doesn’t come overnight; it requires hard work, resilience, and a positive mindset. I have always emphasized the importance of perseverance, resilience, and keeping a positive attitude, and these principles have been our guiding light.

For example, when we started breeding cockatiels, we faced many challenges. However, through patience and adjustment, we’ve finally managed to create a successful breeding program. Now, these cockatiels are thriving, and we’ve shared our best practices and experiences in our previous videos for those interested in starting their own breeding journey.
