Dexter’s World: A Glimpse into Our Sustainable Farming Journey
Hello, everyone! I’m Dexter, and today I’m beyond thrilled to share with you an update that marks a significant milestone in our journey towards sustainable farming. For the past few weeks, we’ve been tirelessly working on a project very close to my heart – our goat house. This initiative not only symbolizes our commitment to eco-friendly farming practices but also brings us one step closer to realizing our dream of an integrated farm.
The Goat House: A Testament to Perseverance
Our goat house project, now nearing completion, showcases the power of perseverance and innovation. Constructed on a challenging terrain where water lies just beneath the surface, we opted for cement posts to ensure the structure’s durability and stability. Our choice of materials, including bamboo and wood, reflects our dedication to using resources that are both cost-effective and environmentally friendly. This approach allowed us to create a spacious and sturdy shelter for our goats without breaking the bank.
As we put the finishing touches on the roof and flooring, and prepare to complete the sidewalls, the excitement is palpable. This goat house, with its capacity to comfortably accommodate up to 50 goats, is set to become a cornerstone of our farm, enabling us to venture into hybrid goat farming in the future.
Harvest Time: Celebrating Nature’s Bounty
In addition to the goat house, today also marks the harvest of our white squash and bitter melon. Witnessing the fruits of our labor literally hanging from the trellises fills me with immense gratitude and wonder. The process of growing these vegetables, from planting to harvesting, underscores the miraculous cycle of growth and the importance of organic farming practices.
Using compost and rabbit poop as fertilizer, we’ve managed to produce a bountiful harvest without resorting to harmful chemicals. This commitment to organic farming not only ensures the health of our soil but also guarantees that the produce we bring to your table is wholesome and nutritious.
The Future of Dexter’s World Farm
Looking ahead, we have ambitious plans to further develop our farm. We envision creating additional shelters for various animals, including chickens and birds, and expanding our vegetable cultivation to include watermelons and chayote. Our goal is to transform Dexter’s World Farm into a haven where visitors can connect with nature, learn about sustainable farming, and enjoy the fruits of our collective labor.
