Transforming Challenges into Opportunities at Dexter’s World Farm: Tilapia, Ducks, and More!

Hi guys! It’s a beautiful day once again, and welcome back to Dexter’s World Channel! 🌞

Early Mornings at Dexter’s World: A New Day, A New Opportunity

It’s 5:30 in the morning, and while the sun has not yet risen, we are already up and running, preparing for another productive day here at the farm. You can see behind me our new 1,000-square-meter fish pond, which is nearly complete. This project has been a labor of love, and we are now finishing up the perimeter fence to protect our precious fish from future floods.

As some of you may recall, we experienced a devastating flood that wiped out our fish stock. To prevent this from happening again, we’re enclosing the pond with concrete hollow blocks. Our goal is to create a safe environment where our tilapia can thrive. Tilapia is a true blessing for us, especially for Filipinos, as they are prolific breeders when provided with the right conditions. We are confident that by December, we will be harvesting a good batch of tilapia!

Building a Community Hub: The Boat House and More

As you can see, we are also constructing a beautiful boat house, which is intended for our visitors who want to enjoy fresh tilapia and hito (catfish). Our dedicated staff has been working tirelessly, often putting in overtime to ensure that we complete everything before October ends. With a target of releasing 5,000 to 10,000 tilapia, we are getting closer to starting our business soon!

But that’s not all! We are also planning to build a three-story boat house that will include a pet shop, dining hall, and space for small gatherings or meetings. This project is an exciting venture that aims to create a warm and welcoming environment for everyone. I’m already imagining hosting 30 to 40-person gatherings, meetings, or fellowships here!

The Secrets to Successful Tilapia Farming

One of the key tips I’d like to share with you today for producing healthy tilapia is feeding them with azolla and duckweed. This is the first time I’ve tried incorporating azolla and duckweed into their diet, and it’s been a game-changer! These natural feeds are rich in nutrients that not only help the fish grow big and fat but also encourage them to breed prolifically. We’ve seen massive growth in our baby tilapias, and I’m thrilled about our upcoming December harvest!

Diversifying the Farm: Ducks, Goats, and More!

I also believe there’s great potential in duck farming. Right now, we are controlling the hatching of duck eggs due to ongoing farm developments. However, once things settle down, we plan to explore duck farming as another income source. We’ve already filled over 1,000 square meters of swampy land with about 300 truckloads of fill, and we plan to add another 300 to expand further. This expansion will also provide ample parking space for our future visitors.

Our dreams for this property are vast! From selling goat meat and delicacies to offering fresh tilapia, hito, native ducks, chickens, and vegetables, we are aiming to create a self-sustaining farm that supports our community and brings us prosperity. Your support and inspiration have been invaluable in this journey from scratch to the progress you see today.

Addressing Challenges and Future Plans

While we’ve made significant strides, we also face challenges, such as securing proper housing for our chickens and ducks. Recently, a wild dog attacked and killed several of our chickens, but we’re pushing forward with plans to establish secure housing to protect them. Our Shamo rooster, weighing about 3 to 4 kilos, is a prime example of what we hope to achieve with our breeding program. We’re excited to continue growing our Shamo chicken line while maintaining our focus on other farm activities.

At Dexter’s World Farm, our intention is to earn an income, but we’re mindful of our capacity. We’re still controlling production to ensure everything is sustainable. And while goat farming is still a work in progress, our tilapia and catfish farming are flourishing, and we plan to scale up to meet market demand soon.

The Road Ahead: Constant Improvements

There are still many adjustments to be made, especially concerning the flooring and infrastructure. We are working diligently to perfect every aspect of the farm, and I have already instructed my staff to address any repairs needed due to recent damage.

Our vision is to expand this farm further, not just for our benefit but also to share our learnings and best practices with you all. We aim to build a community of like-minded individuals who are passionate about sustainable farming and agriculture.
