In the throes of El Niño, our farm has been grappling with soaring temperatures, with the heat index hitting a scorching 40°C. Amidst this, we’ve taken to ensuring our beloved animals, especially Rudy, our alpha goat, stay cool and comfortable. Rudy’s penchant for a refreshing bath has become a delightful routine, proving that even goats, known for their ruggedness, appreciate a good cooldown. This little ritual has become a testament to the adaptability and intelligence of goats, debunking common misconceptions about their dislike for water.
A New Home for Our Goats
Our commitment to animal welfare led us to rescue a mama goat and her two kids, who were in dire straits. Recognizing the signs of distress, such as diarrhea, we immediately set to work, quarantining the new arrivals and administering essential nutrients and treatments. This process underscored the importance of vigilance and care in livestock management, ensuring a healthy integration into our growing goat family.
Training and Routines: The Key to Harmony
A fascinating discovery in our goat farming adventure has been the learning capacity and routine adaptability of our goats. By establishing a simple whistle signal, we’ve been able to guide their movements effortlessly, ensuring they head out to graze and return as needed.
