Witnessing such moments fills me with immense joy and reinforces the love I have for what I do—caring for these beautiful creatures.
Best Practices for Goat Farming
Today, I also want to share some essential tips and best practices that have helped us successfully raise and multiply our goats. These insights are especially beneficial for those of you starting your own farming ventures.
Choosing the Right Housing Materials
When constructing our goat house, I faced a dilemma about the best material for the flooring. Initially, I opted for bamboo, which, unfortunately, did not withstand the test of time and the weight of bigger goats like the Anglo-Nubian. My recommendation for new farmers is to consider more durable materials like good lumber or plastic matting, which, despite the initial cost, provide long-term benefits by ensuring the safety and comfort of your goats.
Nutritional Management
Feeding our goats a varied diet is crucial. They not only feast on their mother’s milk but also enjoy a mix of grasses and leaves, which are vital for their nutrition. Recently, we’ve also incorporated mineral blocks into their diet, which are fantastic for supplementing essential nutrients and keeping our goats from chewing on non-nutritive materials like wood.
Innovations and Infrastructure
Apart from our livestock updates, I’m also proud to report significant progress on the infrastructure front. Our boat house has transformed beautifully with the installation of colored lights and is now ready to become the Dexter World Coffee Ship. This nautical-themed coffee shop will not only serve exquisite brews but also offer a tranquil escape for anyone looking to unwind in the serenity of nature, away from the urban hustle.
Upcoming Attractions
Looking ahead, we are preparing to launch more than just a coffee shop. Plans are underway to construct a sturdy bridge that will connect the main farm to our new venture, enhancing accessibility and safety for all our visitors. We are also improving our pond systems to ensure they are leak-proof, making them safe and sustainable homes for our fish.
