The Ultimate Guide to Koi Care: Feeding, Maintenance, and Exciting Farm Updates

Hi guys! It’s a beautiful day once again, and welcome back to Dexter’s World Channel! 🌞 As early as 5:00 in the morning, I’m already in the garden, removing weeds and tending to our plants. Weeds, much like the worries in our lives, need to be removed to allow growth and prosperity.

Today, I want to show you what’s happening on the farm, where we’ve been reviving our breeding of Japanese koi. I’m excited to share that we now have some beautiful black koi! These koi are quite valuable, and keeping them healthy is a priority. Let me give you a quick tour of the garden and some updates on our koi breeding and care techniques.

Koi Care Essentials: The Basics of Breeding and Feeding

Our koi pond is thriving, and I want to share some key points about koi care with you all. The most important thing is to provide a good filtration system. Our pond uses a DIY filtration bucket that keeps the water clean by allowing hundreds of gallons of water to flow through it. If you’re interested in learning how to make this filtration system, check out one of my earlier videos on building a DIY filter bucket.

Feeding koi the right food is also crucial. For our koi, we use high-quality feed like Exel Koi Feed from Koi King. Providing the right nutrients ensures they have vibrant colors and grow to their full potential. I also supplement their diet with natural foods like azolla and duckweed, which are great for their health.

To keep the koi healthy, it’s essential to maintain a constant supply of oxygen in the water. We use an air pump that provides backup oxygen and keeps the water circulating. Additionally, we use a basket as a strainer to protect our submersible pumps from accumulating dirt and debris, ensuring a clean environment for our koi.

Exciting Future Plans for the Farm

Our farm is expanding, and I’m thrilled to share some of the upcoming plans! We are erecting 14 posts around a massive 1,000-square-meter pond, which will have a depth of over 6 feet. Once the perimeter is completed with concrete hollow blocks, we will release all our fish, including our prized Japanese koi, tilapias, and catfish. We’ve also planned a circular tank for breeding catfish, which is ideal based on testimonies and results from our friends.

In addition to the pond updates, our kitchen is almost complete! It’s a sturdy, concrete structure designed to withstand the elements and serve as a hub for brewing coffee and preparing meals. With the help of our amazing team, we’re working hard to finish all these projects within the month so we can start welcoming visitors and running our business.
